Primary interests

Dr. Whiteley conducts conservation genetics research primarily on fishes.
His research program uses a cross-disciplinary, integrative approach to address fundamental questions in conservation genetics as well as evolutionary biology and ecology. He combines evolutionary genomics, molecular population genetics, quantitative genetics, capture-mark-recapture analysis, field and lab-based experiments, and computational approaches. Dr. Whiteley is particularly interested in using basic research to inform management and conservation efforts.

Current Projects

Population genomic variation of wild populations of zebrafish (Danio rerio) in southeast Asia

Evolutionary response to rapid deglaciation by a freshwater sculpin (Cottus aleuticus) in Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska

Landscape genetics of isolated populations of cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii clarkii) in southeast Alaska
