Primary interests

I joined the Department of Natural Resources Conservation in 1988 as a faculty member in Building Materials & Wood Technology. My research and professional focus involves the performance of building systems, primarily in the area of energy efficient construction and sustainable building practices. My primary interest is Green Building, which involves the sustainable integration of natural and built environments. I have taught a variety of courses that focus on the performance of structures, materials and construction practices. I frequently publish articles about building systems, structural performance, energy conservation, and sustainable building practices. I have served on the National Academy of Sciences, Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment and have served on several National Research Council panels; most recently to Review and Assess the Health and Productivity Benefits of Green Schools. I serve as a contributing editor with The Journal of Light Construction; member of the National Institute of Building Science; and as a member of several editorial and industry advisory boards.
