Welcome to NRC

The Department of Natural Resources Conservation focus extends from the ecology and management of fish and wildlife populations, trees, forests, watersheds and landscapes to the physical, social, and policy aspects of conservation involving urban forests, human habitat, and sustainable building. The study of biology, sociology, policy, engineering, building science, and resource management encompasses rural, suburban, and urban environments. The unifying focus of all these activities is on the stewardship of healthy and sustainable ecosystems that provide important human and community benefits. NRC is one of 16 departments in the College of Natural Sciences.

Spotlight

I am a junior majoring in urban forestry, and I spent this past summer working for the USDA in Worcester, MA. My job was to climb host trees and inspect them for the Asian Longhorned Beetle. Along with doing inspections, I also helped a researcher from Penn State set and check traps for the beetles throughout the summer. It was a great experience (not to mention tons of fun!), and I am still working with them part-time through the school year. I have also attached a picture of me climbing to check one of the traps.
